Victorian Calling Cards Collage Sheets

A beautiful set of four A4 Victorian Calling Cards collage sheets featuring gorgeous floral illustrations.

These are beautiful old graphics which have been digitized from original, unaltered and naturally aged antique images with all the lovely little imperfections and authenticity that brings (bear in mind these images are from artworks which are now over a hundred years old!) I have increased the depth of the colours and sharpened them up for printing at their best but still keeping their authentic feel. Great resource for papercraft projects including but not limited to decoupage, scrapbooks, greeting cards, tags, toppers, junk journals, ephemera, mixed media collages, envelopes, bookmarks etc.

I have also included the original individual images for you to use. Such beautiful colours in these images!

What are Victorian Calling Cards?

Victorian calling cards were a social convention used primarily in the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in Britain and the United States. They were small, elaborately decorated cards carried by members of the upper and middle classes for social purposes. When visiting someone’s home, a person would present their calling card to the servant or butler. This card would be given to the host or hostess, indicating that the visitor had called. The exchange of calling cards was a formalized aspect of social etiquette. Calling cards sometimes included a handwritten note, expressing congratulations, condolences, or other sentiments. They could also serve as invitations to social events. The design and quality of a calling card often reflected the social status and taste of the bearer. Elaborate engraving, luxurious materials, and personalized crests or monograms were common.

Calling cards played a role in courtship rituals, allowing individuals to express interest in a potential romantic partner in a subtle manner.

The rules surrounding the use of calling cards were quite detailed and varied depending on factors such as social status, geographic location, and personal preferences. However, they generally followed conventions of politeness and formality, emphasizing proper social behavior and respectability.
